Grenada

March 29...Didn’t get up at 5 a.m. as we had planned last night to sail to Trinidad.  Spent day relaxing and getting more ready for the passage.  Left Mt. Hartman at 3 p.m. and figured we would have a nice leisurely sail over to Trini.

Quiet day today.  Walked over to Prickly Bay to check out and have 2 for 1 Pizza.  Seems a bit more active here than in Mt. Hartman.  Beautiful infinity pool at condos there which no one was using.  What a shame!

March 27...Amazing rummy game last night.  Don't want to brag but game was over quickly in my favour!  Three hands, first hand, score of 200, second hand, score of 200 and the last and final hand, score of 100.  WOW, AMAZING!!!!  chuckle, chuckle.

On our way to  fill up our water jugs this morning had an opportunity to go to the beach and snorkel.  Took a cab with a group of people to Acquarium, a restaurant past the airport.  Beach was nice, not as long as Grand Anse.  Walked the beach and went for a swim, snorkeled and swam some more.  Snorkeling was okay, there was coral and some fish but because it was a bit rough, the bottom was murky.  Had lunch at the restaurant and then back to Mt. Hartman.  Showered and got ready for a full moon dinghy drift.   It seemed that it took the moon a long time to come up and unfortunately it was overcast.  An active day today.

March 26...Dinghied into marina.  Left early this morning so that we could walk for a bit to catch a bus into St. Georges.  The walk turned out to be quite a walk….one hour later.  On the way, I did stop to talk to a young woman and found out she was a student at the medical school here and was from Windsor.  She couldn’t believe that we even knew where Windsor was as most of the people she meets are from Toronto.
Found a bus, $2.50EC each, quite a ride, they have conductors (who are actually young men, I thought this one was about 14) and they look out for people who look as if they need a bus.  The more passengers they get, of course, the more money in their pocket.  Bus dropped us off at the bus station.

We walked the streets a bit and to the market but it was so hot and we had not had breakfast yet so I felt a bit faint. Looked around a bit and then stopped at Ocean Grill Restaurant on the water.  I thought it would be a bit touristy but actually was quite lovely.  A nice breeze, comfortable chairs, pleasant waiter and food was good.  Peter had a hamburger and mine was a lobster sandwich without mayo.

Then walked back along the water, the fishermen were selling their fish and the crowd!  I wish I had the sound for the noise that was being made.

Caught a bus back to CKs, Cash and Carry for a few supplies.  Taxi was to be called for the trip back to Mt. Hartman but some young people asked if we needed a cab, I said yes and asked the price….$20EC…was good.  Well, sitting at the back of this van  I felt as if I was taking a van to Woodstock.  An out of sight experience.   Two of them had birthdays today, were celebrating  and offered us a drink, vodka and orange.  They had ice in their cooler as well.  They were off to the beach on the other side of the island and invited us to come along.  They said we should come and they would drive us back.  Finally, we made it to our destination.  They wanted to take us on a tour of the island another time and made sure we had their phone number and “no problem” we should give them a call and they would love to show us around.  I’m sure it would be an experience travelling around with them. As they pulled away, I noticed the name on the van was “Bandit”.  Hmmmmm
March 25...Cabbed into Grand Anse, beautiful beach, and walked along it.  Nice resort along there and thought of visiting friends who may want to stay, Spice Island Beach Resort, rated number one in Grenada.  Bungalow style, facing the beach or your own private pool.  However, when accessing the information realized it was far too rich for us.

Small grocery shop at Spice Island Mall.Rode over to Clarkes Court Marina, deposited some reading books and picked up some more reading material for Peter.

March 24...Went back to look at the underground sculptures as we had missed some of them and then left for the south coast of Grenada.  Arrived in Mt. Hartman and anchored.  Checked out Secret Cove Marina and then went over to a party held every Sunday afternoon at Hog Island.

March 23...Decided to Stay in Dragon Bay for another night even though I found it a bit rolly and was a bit nervous for once.  It must have been the book I finished last night….Jackdaws by Ken Follett.  It seems as if that is the only type of books we have.  Snorkeled this morning in the marine park.  Some of the statues are lying down…don’t know whether the water and waves have done this but some are still standing.  Interesting but would be interesting to see the National Geographic pictures.  Plan to swim to shore while Peter takes the dinghy and have lunch at Dragons Hideaway Bar and Grill.  The write up says to have an open mind and a relaxed attitude.  That means a long lunch.  Hope we are not too hungry.  Oh dear….no food today.

March 22...Left Tyrell Bay this morning as planned around 9:00 a.m. and arrived at Dragon Bay about 12:30 p.m.  Uneventful motor sail.  Had thought of staying at Happy Hill just before Dragon but changed our mind.  Pleasant afternoon here and I swam to shore and back.  Nice marine life and plan to go snorkeling tomorrow morning to look at the underwater statues in the marine park built by Jason Decaires Taylor made whole famous by photos in National Geographic.

Had the last of the frozen Mahi Mahi.  Rummy not going well for me at all.  Seems as if my luck has turned.  Exasperating to say the least!

March 21...Short motor sail to Tyrell Bay.  Large sheltered bay and good jumping off point for Grenada.  Not much here at all but presently sitting in a nice restaurant, Pizza Pizza, overlooking the bay.  Free wifi.  Will head out tomorrow for Dragon Bay in Grenada.  Apparently very nice.  Will be the first time for Peter.
Correction:  Restaurant is called the Lazy Turtle but to connect to wifi is pizza pizza.  and there are lots of noseeums....ouch only me, of course.

March 20...Walk on beach at Sandy Isle, full of coral on west side that had been placed there in a recent hurricane.  Looks almost man made.  Dinghied across to Paradise Beach and ate at Sunset Bar and Grill, a great beach restaurant.  Quiet, no tourists and ate what the locals consider their best fish….barracuda.  It was delicious!  Dinghied back to Sandy Isle and walked it, then quiet evening with leftovers.

March 19...Short motor sail to Sandy Isle in Carriacou.  No problem finding a mooring pin.  Dinghied over to  Hillsborough to check in.  Walked the town, old and main street was very long.  Not very much to see but a great and very clean fish market.  Time to be there would be around 11 a.m. one of the vendors told us.
